One time in the 70's, a guy named Billy owned a tackle shop called Worlwide Sportsman in Islamorada, in the Keys of Florida. A man named Ted one day heard Billy say that the reels they had for flyrods were garbage; that they could hook those 100lb+ tarpon on flyrods, but couldn't get them to the boat for proper release.
Enter a man named Ted Juracsik. Ted went home and built too. The incredible machinist was an artist with metal. When his spools -- his aluminum spools -- appeared in the reels he had carefully crafted way before the days of CAD system and computerized grinders and cutters. You worked by hand with the metal you had.
The metal made a fly reel. The reel's called the Billy Pate. It's made by Tibor reels. visit their site to see the legend.
